The structure of the organisation incorporates 3 divisions, to which the members of the organisation are attached.

Those divisions are:

• the Communications Division
• the Electrical, Energy and Services Division, and
• the Plumbing Division.

Further, the members of the divisions are divided into divisional branches.

Elections for office positions within the organisation are conducted by the AEC, and the term of office is 4 years.

In total there are 21 divisions and divisional branches.

The organisation, its divisions and their divisional branches are all reporting units for the purposes of financial reporting.

The general control and conduct of the business of the organisation is vested in the National Council, which comprises the office bearers and delegates from the divisions of the organisation. The organisation also comprises a National Executive, Divisional Conferences, Divisional Executives and Industry Sections. 

The organisation and each division, including the New South Wales Divisional Branch, has their own discrete sets of rules by which they are governed.
