Fair Work Commission President, Justice Hatcher spoke at the Australian Labour and Employment Relations Association Conference.
In his speech, Justice Hatcher spoke about the Commission's role within the current legislative framework focusing on 3 topics:
- The Commission as an institution
- Enterprise bargaining
- Gender equality
Justice Hatcher speaks of his vision for the Commission to be 'to be an accessible, responsive and transparent organisation that is continually reforming and innovating to meet changing societal circumstances.' He goes on to outline some of the ways in which we are trying to reach this objective
In the speech, Justice Hatcher outlines some of the major amendments made by the Secure Jobs, Better Pay legislation. In particular, the new powers to make intractable bargaining declarations and the inclusion of gender pay equality as an object of the Fair Work Act 2009.
